Restoring Safety and Mobility While Preserving Historic Hanging Rock

November 8, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Ms. Chia-Calabria will discuss Historic Hanging Rock which was considered a “legacy” project by PennDOT. Due to its complex nature of design, location and permitting issues, this project was with PennDOT for more than 20 years. McCormick Taylor was able to bring the project to construction, completing the design in just 3 years. Our engineers and planners created a new design that reconstructed the flood prone roadway, raising it above the 100-year flood elevation, and installed 1,000 linear feet of retaining wall, and constructed a 600-foot section of the retaining wall and cantilevered roadway over the creek to move the travel lanes away from the historic Hanging Rock. This project won the American Society of Highway Engineers (Delaware Valley Section) Project of the Year 2022 for projects under $20 million.

This course is approved for 1 PDH.
