Senior Civil Engineer (Hydraulic)

From highway planning and design, to construction and maintenance, to providing services to over 8 million of Pennsylvania’s licensed drivers and out of state travelers; the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer specializing in hydraulics to work within the Bureau of Project Delivery, Highway Delivery Division, Highway Design and Technology Section.

The Senior Civil Engineer (Hydraulic), assists in the management of PennDOT’s statewide quality assurance and guidance program. Works with other state agencies to coordinate approvals and obtain permits, reviews submissions for state compliance and federal criteria and provides field review to resolve issues or recommend corrective actions. During potential flooding and flooding events; monitors observed and predicted precipitation amounts, stream gauges, and flood warnings/advisories to determine which bridges and approach roadways are or may be impacted. May lead taskforces, committees, and meetings a requested.

Requires two years of professional civil engineering experience in hydraulics and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering/closely related engineering discipline; or five years of civil engineering experience in hydraulics and an associate’s degree in civil engineering/related engineering discipline or six years of civil engineering experience in hydraulics or equivalent combination of experience and training. Possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate or Professional Engineer license issued by the PA State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is required. PA residency requirement is currently waived.

The Civil Engineer Manager (Hydraulic), manages advanced engineering professionals in the field of hydrology and hydraulics (H&H), to implement the Department’s statewide H&H Quality Assurance Program for bridge and culvert designs. Requires four years of professional civil engineering experience which includes three years in the appropriate specialty (hydraulics), and one year of experience in directing the work of civil engineers. Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the PA State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is also required. Must meet PA residency requirement.

Salary is $68,343.00 – $97,213 annually.
