Job Description

Borton Lawson is searching for a Senior Water/ Wastewater Engineer with 10 to 15 years of experience to join our Water team in our Wilkes-Barre, PA or Bethlehem, PA office. The successful candidate will use their expertise and technical knowledge in planning, design, construction, and client service to successfully execute water, wastewater and storm water related infrastructure projects.

 Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead and direct design/ technical development of infrastructure projects within the areas of water / wastewater / storm water including supply, storage, collection and distribution, treatment, and pumping/conveyance systems from the planning and design phases through construction completion.
  • Delivery of projects to meet established budgets and delivery schedules to the performance expectations of the client.
  • Prepare construction documents including plans and specifications.
  • Prepare project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Provide overall technical direction and expertise to team of design engineers.
  • Perform and/or oversee preparation of detailed engineering calculations and analysis, using design software as required.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplined engineering teams.
  • Supervise and provide mentoring to junior level technical staff.
  • Interact with and oversee the work of CAD staff.
  • Support or lead preparation and development of proposals.
  • Client management.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in water/ wastewater / stormwater planning, design, and construction administration as a lead design engineer or project manager
  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred
  • Strong team leadership experience or proven potential; including managing project delivery expectations, prioritization of tasks, and mentoring.
  • Current PE license in PA
  • Excellent technical skills in the water / wastewater / stormwater practice area

Job Description

Perform engineering work relating to the design, construction, and operation of structural projects associated with Oil and Gas facility. This would include site assessments, project scoping, structural analysis and design, and specification writing. Provide structural engineering expertise, which may involve the adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Based on needs and criteria established by reviewing agencies, clients, government agencies, vendors, utilities, contractors, or other governing parties, perform all or specialized construction design related work. These projects may be characterized by unique or complex circumstances.
  • Responsibilities would include site assessments, project scoping, structural analysis and design, specification writing and working with structural designers to develop contract drawings.

Required Experience

Job Description

Borton-Lawson is looking for a team-focused and innovative Electrical Engineer in its Oil & Gas Facility Service Center.  Position requires thorough knowledge of power systems, electrical design and engineering techniques, as well as familiarity with AutoCAD and 3D software tools. Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and Borton-Lawson’s standards. The office location for this position will be based on the location of the selected candidate.  The position may be located in our Wilkes-Barre, Wexford or Bethlehem office.

Typical Duties – Typical duties will include but not be limited to the preparation and/or modification of the following:

  • Electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs as it relates to Oil & Gas related projects. Typical projects include upstream, midstream and downstream facilities such as Compressor Stations, LNG and processing facilities. 
  • Project controls, cost estimates, quantity takeoffs and manpower requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Lead design work and QA/QC plan sets and specifications.
  • Client communication and coordination.

  • Requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a solid knowledge of principles and practices of related technical areas.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials, and the economics involved.
  • Performs assignments independently with instruction as to the general results expected and with guidance from Project Manager or Discipline Manager on unusual or complex problems.
  • Provides technical direction and on-the-job training to Drafters, Designers, and less experienced Engineers.
  • Assigns and coordinates work to Drafters, Designers, and Engineers.
  • Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects.
  • Serve as Project Engineer and Client point of contact on smaller, less complex projects.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate program of assigned engineering work and projects.

Required Experience

Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in an electrical engineering or scientific discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience with advance knowledge in electrical engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education.

Skills and Special Requirements:

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Electrical analysis software – Experience with ETAP and/or SKM including Arc Flash, Short-Circuit, PD Coordination, Power Quality and Harmonic Analysis
  • Direct experience in coordinating electrical design in a multi-discipline engineering team
  • Licensed P.E. in Pennsylvania or ability to gain reciprocity or ability to obtain P.E. in near future
  • Experience with low and medium voltage applications, switchgear, MCC’s, utility coordination, lightning protection and protection relays
  • Leadership and strong communication skills is a must
  • Oil & Gas related experience is a plus
  • Knowledgeable in National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) Standards, and Standards Associations including AGA, ANSI/NEMA, IEEE, API

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work is generally performed in a professional office environment with intensive use of computer and peripherals required.  Some site visits may be required.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent education and experience

  • Develop material and construction specifications.
  • Engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems.
  • Assist in checking completed job for adequacy of design and documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence for project designs and studies.

  • Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling for computer aided and design development. PLS-CADD and associated modules (POLE, TOWER), Excel, MFAD or Lpile, NESC.
  • Knowledge in ACI, ASCE Pole manual, AISC Steel manual preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with industry codes standards and practices for electric utility practice.
