Job Description: Meliora Design is seeking a motivated Structural Engineer interested in solving problems, working on a variety of project types and scales, and inspired by challenges of sustainability and energy. This is an opportunity to become part of a growing practice in a growing firm. This position will support and lead structural design and construction administration efforts for a wide range of projects such as adaptive reuse of existing buildings, new building construction, pedestrian and highway bridges, boardwalk structures and bridges for trails, rail transit, and the occasional pop-up garden or art installation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural analysis, steel design, concrete design, and timber design. They should be an innovative thinker and be able to work on multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines. An interest or background in sustainability is a plus, as is advanced knowledge of AutoCAD. This is a full- or part-time position with opportunity for growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • A Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in structural engineering and design
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD software
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IBC, AISC, ACI, and ASCE codes
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience with STAAD or similar structural analysis software
  • Experience with LPILE or similar analysis software

Job Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with clients for project scoping and project management
  • Communicating regularly (both oral and written) with co-workers and clients
  • Leading multiple, unique assignments simultaneously, using organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the Managing Director, the Public Works Director provides senior leadership, policy direction, and strategic focus for the Department of Public Works including all engineering, traffic engineering, transportation, fleet maintenance, facilities maintenance, parks, streets, wastewater treatment plant, sanitary and storm water collection, and solid waste services.

  • Typical job duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Leads the development of the department’s strategic plan and five-year capital improvement plan.
  • Assures compliance with professional standards and overall engineering integrity of all facilities, equipment and rolling stock.
  • Directs the continuous cost evaluation process and initiates cost saving and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serves as the City Engineer providing professional engineering consultation and advice to the Planning Commission, City Council and Administration.
  • Functions as a member of the senior leadership team, serving as a resource and partner to the Managing Director and other department directors in studying major issues and trends in identifying special concerns or needs and making recommendations for solutions.
  • Takes leadership role in public meetings related to Public Works issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:       

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management, engineering or other related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Registration as a professional engineer in the state of Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain the certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Possesses valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License

Experience/Requirements

  • Must have five (5) plus years of experience in the field of Public Works Administration, preferably with exposure to utilities operations and a unionized workforce
  • Thorough knowledge of the principals and practices of civil engineering, public works operations, and management theory.
  • Has the skill to be a coalition builder and collaborator with a track record of establishing strong partnerships internally and externally.
  • Possesses the knowledge of municipal finance, budgeting and capital improvement planning.
  • Well-developed communication skills with a participative, inclusive management style.

Director of Engineering and Environmental Services – Cranberry Township

Cranberry Township is a growing residential and business community. As the Director of Engineering and Environmental Services, the incumbent for this position will play an integral role in commercial and residential land development, as well as Township-owned development projects, including developing project management standards. This position will also serve as the Township Engineer pursuant to the Second Class Township Code.

The successful candidate will be able to connect quickly with people in a poised, engaging and empathetic and enthusiastic way in order to complete tasks and will be integral in motivating others. This position will entail working at an extremely fast pace and the successful candidate will be able to successfully take initiative, lead conversations and manage multiple priorities to manage both the day-to-day operations of the Engineering and Environmental Services Department and work to develop and implement long-range plans for the department. The ability to understand, quickly react and motivate others to adapt to the changing organization environment is a critical key to success. The successful candidate will be able to handle all aspects of tasks, from the initiation to completion.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of seven years’ experience in program management, operations and maintenance, implementation, program planning with a minimum of three years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
