Live Event | Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement – Overcoming Construction Challenges

Description | This course will discuss the many obstacles encountered in replacing an interstate highway bridge over a major river. The environmental, structural, and logistical challenges faced while replacing the old bridge with two new ones while still maintaining traffic volumes during construction.

Course Objective | Show the challenges facing constructing a major river subject to significant elevation changes and the challenges of roadway reconfiguration.

Presenter | Mike McCandles, PE | Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission Program Manager – Structures

Mr. McCandless is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has over 35 years of experience in the highway bridge industry.  Underemployment of a consulting engineering firm, Mr. McCandless, has been providing professional services in support of Commission objectives since 2011, including the development of concept designs for the early stages of the Scudder Falls Bridge Project.  Mr. McCandless also served the Commission as part of their Program Management Team, providing preliminary and final design oversight for the Scudder Falls Bridge Project.  In October 2019, Mr. McCandless accepted a position with Commission as their Program Manager – Structures, providing program oversight for all Commission structures, with a priority focus on supporting the Scudder Falls Bridge Project Management Team through the successful construction of the largest project that the Commission has ever undertaken.
