FE Exam Reimbursement Program
The Pennsylvania Engineering Foundation (PEF) has secured funding to support engineering students by providing access to codes to FE Exam study materials and reimbursing exam registration fees, helping remove financial barriers to licensure while strengthening workforce readiness.
To date, PEF has partnered with Wilkes University, Gannong University, Drexel University, Lafayette College, and the University of Pittsburgh, providing full reimbursement to more than 200 students.
Program Overview
The FE Reimbursement Program is designed to support students at a critical milestone on the path to professional engineering licensure — while minimizing administrative burden for participating institutions.
- Funded through a Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry grant, with support from NCEES and individual donors.
- No cost to participating institutions
- Codes provided for access to approved FE study materials and 100% reimbursement of FE exam registration fees
Proven Impact
Participating institutions have reported strong outcomes:
- Wilkes University: 20% increase in FE Exam pass rates compared to the prior year
- Gannon University: 74% pass rate among program participants
- Drexel University: 100% pass rate among 50 test-takers
These results demonstrate the value of early licensure support and reduced financial barriers.
FAQ
Who is eligible to participate?
Students enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering programs at participating institutions who plan to take the FE Exam. Detailed eligibility guidelines and approved study material access codes are provided by PEF each program cycle.
How does the reimbursement process work?
Students are provided with codes to access approved FE study materials and register for the FE Exam, then submit the FE Exam registration receipt to the institution’s designated contact. The institution forwards receipts to PEF, and PEF reimburses the institution, which then reimburses students.
What reporting is required?
Institutions assist with confirming participation, sharing aggregate pass/fail data when available, and distributing a brief student survey provided by PEF.
How much administrative time is involved?
Minimal. Most participation involves student communication and receipt coordination. PEF manages funding, reimbursement processing, and reporting.
Who serves as the campus point of contact?
Institutions designate a faculty or staff liaison to coordinate communication and documentation.
Can the program be repeated or expanded?
Yes. The program is designed to be scalable and repeatable, with opportunities for ongoing participation based on student demand and available funding.
How do we get started?
Participation begins with a brief introductory conversation and identification of a campus contact. PEF provides all onboarding materials, timelines, and support.
