Life and Retired Membership Status – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the requirements for obtaining Life Membership Status?
A: A member shall become eligible for life status with waiver of dues if the applicant has been a member above the Student grade for a continuous period of 40 years, and is at least 65 years of age. Each member who has attained life status shall be given an option in writing annually to contribute to NSPE.
Q: What are the requirements for obtaining Retired Membership Status?
A: A member shall become eligible for retired status if the member has been a continuous member for a period of 25 years, is at least 65 years of age, and has retired from active practice. For these purposes, "active practice" shall mean providing engineering consultation totaling more than 300 hours in a given calendar year. One-half dues shall be paid annually until life status requirements are met.
Q: How can I apply for a change in membership status?
A: Any member who qualifies for life or retired membership status can forward their application for change directly to PSPE.
