Thanks to everyone who helped make the September meeting a success!
The Lincoln Chapter kicked off the year with the Engineering Society of York in a Joint Meeting at the Kinsley Education Center on September 8th. The evening started with professional mingling during social hour and it wasn’t long before we were enjoying a delicious steak dinner. After dinner, Konrad Crist, P.G, of Geo-Technology Associates, Inc presented the topic titled “Exploring Engineering Applications of Geophysics” which primarily focused on the diverse applications and the latest technology in subsurface investigations and geotechnical methods. Hats off to ESOY and Keith Miller of PSPE for making this annual event a success! Also at the September meeting, we presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to a worthy candidate, Harvey Bradley, PE. As a chapter I believe we all benefit from recognizing the efforts of those who have “enhanced the honor, reputation, and usefulness of the engineering profession”. If you think you know someone who may meet the criteria for the award, please visit our website under "Awards Committee" and start the nomination process today.
Believe it or not, we are in the process of planning for Mathcounts 2009. Mark your calendar…the event is scheduled on February 21, 2009. Don’t be alarmed, it is a natural reaction to ask yourself, “How can I help?” And we are glad that you ask this important question. First, you will soon receive a letter in the mail asking for a donation, please take a minute to seriously consider giving this year. You can be assured that your money will be wisely spent on much needed materials, awards, and other items to make the competition a success. Second, although its months away, it’s not too early to consider attending; be a volunteer or spectator and see your hard earned money at work. The kids will appreciate your time and I guarantee that you will be impressed with the entire event.
Our next meeting features a tour of the National Watch and Clock Museum on October 27th at 5:30 p.m. in Columbia, PA. This years’ exhibit is titled “Time in Office: Presidential Timepieces” which includes pocket watches, clocks, and wristwatches from twenty presidents. For a taste of what you will experience, visit the official website at http://www.visithhc.com/z/nawcc.htm. Come out, relax, and enjoy the fall evening with us :).
We cannot do it without you!
