Welcome to the 2008-2009 MATHCOUNTS season!
Please take note of these important dates:
December 12, 2008 - Paid registration deadline (to MATHCOUNTS)
January 22, 2008 - Schools submit names for the regional event program (forms and more info will be sent later)
February 21, 2009 - Regional Competition at Millersville University
March 20-21, 2009 - Pennsylvania State Competition in Harrisburg
May 7-10, 2009 - Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Orlando, FL

MATHCOUNTS was started in 1983 to promote math excellence among middle school students. It is one of the largest and most successful education partnerships, involving over 500,000 students and 17,000 teachers, engineers and other professional volunteers each year.
The Program’s Mission is to increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics. Reaching all students, not just select winners is the true intent of the program.Why MATHCOUNTS Works
• MATHCOUNTS motivates and rewards students by fostering teamwork and a competitive spirit.
• MATHCOUNTS is more than a competition. It involves students and teachers in year-long coaching sessions and helps students at all levels improve their problem-solving skills.
• MATHCOUNTS builds math skills, promotes logical thinking and sharpens students' analytical abilities.
• MATHCOUNTS provides America's middle school teachers with creative, state-of-the-art curriculum materials, free of charge.
• MATHCOUNTS introduces students to math-related careers through contacts with engineers and other professionals who serve as volunteers.
• MATHCOUNTS is educator-driven. Materials and activities are structured to meet student needs, as identified by educators. Members of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) develop these materials in accordance with NCTM curriculum standards.
MATHCOUNTS is organized and administered by the MATHCOUNTS Foundation and NSPE. Pennsylvania leads the country in number of schools and students participating.
