We now begin a new calendar year, new decade, and the second half of the Chapter season. Our next event is the January 21 dinner meeting, which will feature "Engineers Without Borders". This will be a joint meeting with the Engineers' Club of Philadelphia. The speaker is Walt Walker, who is the current president of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Engineers Without Borders. He will have three co-presenters. It should be a very interesting presentation, and a significant change from the "high-tech" approach that engineers are usually familiar with. The Future Cities Competition is scheduled for January 23 at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall on Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia. Judges are needed, so we encourage Chapter members to volunteer. The Delaware County MATHCOUNTS competition is scheduled for February 6 at the Radnor Middle School (snow date February 13). Please contact Kevin Matson if you are interested in volunteering. The Chapter's biggest event is the Engineers' Week celebration. Our Engineers' Week dinner meeting will be held February 11 at the Town House restaurant in Media. We will be honoring the [Delaware County] Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year. The Chapter will be participating as judges at the Delaware County Science Fair being held March 8. Contact Carl Dupoldt if you are interested in volunteering. Our March 18 dinner meeting will feature the topic "Ground Penetrating Radar for Locating Underground Utilities". The April 15 dinner meeting is our Awards Night and honors winners from the Mathcounts, Scholarships, Future Cities, and Delaware County Science Fair competitions. Our golf outing is scheduled for May, and the Chapter picnic will be held in June. We are in the process of creating flyers for all of our events. We will be mailing out postcards to all Chapter members requesting that they indicate if they want to receive a hardcopy. Otherwise, they will receive the flyer in an email attachment. We are still working on developing a newsletter, but need more time to complete our preparations. If you are interested in working on the newsletter or volunteering for any other activity, please contact myself or another Chapter officer. Thank you, William J. Mulloy, P.E. President, (2009-2010) Delaware County Chapter, PSPE
